What are the laws of using pictures from artists on the internet as the background on my business cards?

I've found some pictures on the internet drawn by certain artists. I'd like to use them as background for my business cards?

hi, you must ask the owner from the picture... or take a photo from a license-free website.

Reply:IF the images are copyright, then you can't use them.

If the artist themself is alive, then you'd have to contact them (or their "agent") for permission.

Legally speaking, as it were.

There is something called fair use. However, fair use is void when used for a profit motive. Your business card is used to get you business, which is for profit.

If you are somehow making money off of (even in the slightest) giving out a business card with their art on it... then you are violating fair use.
