independent trader means you trade different trading instruments--stocks, options, futures, forex, etc. Equities trader means you only trade stocks.

To help answer your question, who are you marketing your services to? Do they trade only stocks? if so, equity trader will work.

From what I know about prop trader, you trade using firm capital. If this is what you do, and do not have to market your services, why not use proprietary trader instead?

From a marketing standpoint, you need to be known for one thing, and be known as one of the best in that field. That way, you will have the halo effect working to your advantage--then people will perceive of you as being good in other things as well.

Independent trader is too general.
