I have no ideal of where to begin? Any suggestions on printers, software, paper, reference materials, websites, etc?
I would like to start a printing company (flyers, invitations, business cards, etc)?
This is a tough industry to get into. The more profitable printing companies print bulk mailings in extremely high quantities. The equipment is very large and expensive and the technology is changing constantly.
Keep in mind also that many companies are doing their own printing now a days with the invention of color copiers and laser printers.
However, if you are truly interested, I agree with one of the answers above and start with the SBA. They can get you started.
Reply:Best to start by learning the business. Work in an established printing company across town. Learn all you need to; this may take a while. Then figure out if you want to do an internet-type printer or a storefront type place.
I think you'll have a hard time out selling VistaPrint.
Small Business Administration? Sure!

Reply:My Dad is selling his registered printing business with all of the stock, equipment and machinery for under AU $4000.
If you're in Australia, email me if you are interested.
He does flyers, business cards, invitations etc.
Reply:My aunt has this business though she does much more than that including signs, banners, and even striping and marking police cars. Most of her inventory for the signs come from Dallas, TX where she attends those large symposiums. Atleast once a year she goes to those and picks up business cards for resources for her business.
Buy a high quality and fast printer. Secondly don't waste money on buying a computer from a store. Have one built to your specs with only your software for importing, printing, and managing your fonts and trademarked logos. You'll have to have a PRINTSHOP and PHOTOSHOP. Also get a good scanner.
Reply:PRINTING COMPANIES ARE TWISTED .. DONT DO IT!!!! Save your soul!! LOL!!
Reply:Well I worked for a copy and print company... If you are hiring I will work for you.
Reply:Consult the Small Business Administration, first! They will be able to help you determine if you have the skills necessary to even do this, they will show you how to draw up a business plan (without which you shouldn't even try to start up a company). They can show you how to determine what kind of start-up capital you will need, and also how to confirm that there is a NEED for this kind of business in your area. They are an invaluable resource, sponsored by the Federal Government - what a great way to get something back for the tax dollars you pay in! Good luck
